On March 28th, as the countdown to the 150th edition of The Open begins, this Saturday, a special light and sound projection show will be staged at the iconic The R&A Clubhouse in St Andrews, UK.
Residents of St Andrews took part in the live festivities at The R&A Illumination Celebration. They gathered at the world-famous Old Course to watch this wonderful projection show which brings festive scenes from the precious history of The Open to our eyes.
This cutting-edge light show production is narrated by actor and lifelong golf fan Gerard Butler. It charts the extraordinary evolution of golf since The Open in 1860, congratulating famous champion golfers and reflecting on the unforgettable performances of these greats.
Martin Slumbers, chief executive of The R&A, said: "The R&A Illumination Gala is a great way for us to continue the countdown to the 150th Open at St Andrews. To all the spectators in attendance tonight, there’s a real thrill as it allows us to relive those iconic moments of this grand tournament that millions of fans around the world have revered.”

The light show is the latest in a series of special events leading up to The Open kickoff. The R&A will also host the Celebration of Champions on Monday 11 July, a special golf exhibition at the Old Course that will showcase some of the world's most famous players during the 150th edition of The Open tournament week golfer.
