Casambi Helps Sedus Building Human Centric Lighting

Sedus, a German seller of office supplies, received help from Casambi, a Finnish wireless lighting control expert, to develop office lighting that contributes to user well-being.

In April 2019, Sedus opened a new office facility in Dogern, Germany, with the goal of creating an open workspace to showcase a smart workplace of the future. Based on the concept, the office is outfitted with adaptable and clever solutions to offer the perfect environment for focus and cooperation. Thus, lighting is crucial in the smart office.

As daylight varies throughout the day and from season to season, lighting in the Sedus workplace is intelligently controlled by Casambi and changes in intensity and color temperature over time. The people who use the area report feeling completely at ease as every single light color that is determined is captured by the skin and eyes like in a real forest by the continuous, non-synchronized movement of tiny groups of luminaires at extremely short intervals (such as every 8 minutes).

A variety of lighting conditions that simulate natural lighting, including sunset, sunrise, cloudy weather, twinkle, and reflection, are produced by combining RGBW luminaires with adjustable white and natural light. The Fibonacci number sequences specify the temporal dynamics. The initiative supports the circadian cycle and is experimental in terms of how quickly the light changes over time.

With Casambi's wireless lighting control, Sedus may define daily as well as seasonal dynamic changes in the light color and color temperature, as well as set programs for each individual space and room in the smart office.
